![]() Place was an easy 2 hours drive from Manila. My watch said the top is at 1288m above sea level, the hike was 5,6km each way with an elevation of 1300 meters on the way up. (No real need for sun cream since it’s not much sun getting through the forest).Īllow your self a few hours up and a few hours down. ![]() Wear shorts and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. My recommendation: bring a backpack with as less as you can but at least 2 liters of water (more if you are a big person, it’s nice with a small bottle easy to carry in the hand to drink often and one or two bigger ones to refill from), snacks, a wind jacket or dry t-shirt (it’s cold at the top and you will be wet from sweat!). You also pass the volcano that had an eruption in the 1950s. Lots of beautiful plants to watch and your guide will tell you the names of some.Īt the top I was rewarded with a thick layer of clouds but it was still worth it! On the way down we had some good views. The forest is beautiful, creating an Alice in wonderland feeling. The walk was quite exhausting - walking through rain forest where it’s quite humid and warm, the ground being a bit slippery and lots of stones and branches to maneuver. You can start later but it won’t be easier due to temperature. It’s in the dawn so we didn’t need torches. Me and my guide met at 5:30 in the morning, the trail starts on the north west side of the island. Ask your hotel or the local tourist office and they will get you in touch with a guide. The guide fee is about 1200 pesos and the entrene fee to the national park 200 pesos pp. To climb this mountain you need a guide, you can be either a smaller group or one person using the same guide. Take nothing but pictures.Leave nothing but footprints.Kill nothing but time. Lunch (sandwiches or whatever you prefer)Ĭover/malong (in case you need pee along the way) Walking stick (can be bought at the registration area) What to bring (particularly when visiting with kids): What to wear (particularly when visiting with kids):Ĭomfy shoes with socks (preferably with a good traction) I'd love to come back without kids next time and be at the summit in time for the sunrise. It was one of the coolest and most relaxing climb for me, with really amazing view. A 2 or 3-hour trek to the summit might have been doable. I think we achieved that goal, with lots of long stops along the way.įor a climber like me, the trek was easy all throughout. ![]() It was fine because our goal was just to get the kid to try trekking and have fun doing it. We planned on having an early start but since we were with 2 kids ages 7 & 9 y/o, we arrived quite late and started our trek at 9am.īecause it was the kids' first climb, we did not even reach the first peak. We reserved online in December 27 and got our confirmation on the same day. I flew solo from the USA for this experience - my first trip since 2018 - and I am so happy that I chose Davao, and the best guide on Mt Apo!! I would strongly recommend Albert and his team to anyone who would like to include the wonderful mini-adventure of bagging Mt Apo to your bucket list. They made me feel more like family than a "customer". Not only is Albert an incredible guide, he also has a wonderful team of support staff from Ray, Roy, the cooks, the equipment and camp team - they were all professional and extremely friendly and welcoming. When the weather held off for the early morning views of the sunrise from the bolder field, it was a slice of heaven! My experience climbing the mountain was incredible and although we had cold and windy conditions, it was one of the best hikes I've had in many years (Appalachians, Pikes, Longs, Kokoda etc). I knew I was dealing with someone very experienced when he sent me the equipment list and what I should do to be prepared. I was fortunate to read about the experiences that others had with Albert and contacted him via email. A big part of my decision was to spend 3 days of my trip to climb Mt Apo. I had been planning a 2-week trip to the Philippines and decided to visit Davao based on my research. ![]()
